ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team returned home on Wednesday evening after a six-game road trip, falling by a score of 2-1 in non-conference action to visiting Rutgers University – Camden.

An evenly played first half would remain scoreless through 45 minutes of play. Rutgers Camden held a 6-4 edge in shots in the opening frame, creating the game's best early chances by hitting both posts midway through the contest. Neumann's best chance came late in the period, when Kaitlyn Thomas' shot from just inside the box was denied by the Scarlet Raptor net-minder to keep the game knotted at 0-0 heading to halftime.
The game would open up in the second stanza, with Rutgers Camden drawing first blood in the 54
th minute. A Scarlet Raptor forward found her way behind the Neumann back-line and slipped a ball past a diving Clements to make it 1-0 in favor of the visitors. Both teams went back and forth with chances before Rutgers Camden doubled its lead in the 79
th minute. The Scarlet Raptors headed home a ball off a corner kick to take a late 2-0 lead.
The Knights would not go quietly though, fighting their way back late in the match. After a Neumann free kick rattled off the crossbar, Elman gathered the loose ball in the box and drilled home her second goal of the season to cut the lead to 2-1. The hosts tried everything they could to find an equalizer in the final five minutes of play but could not put another ball past the Scarlet Raptor goalkeeper as the game finished 2-1.
Neumann (3-5-1) returns to the field this Saturday, September 28
th for another home non-conference game versus King's College. Game-time was scheduled for 1:00 PM.
