ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey dropped a contest for the second straight day in upstate New York, falling by a score of 6-2 to Nazareth College in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action Saturday afternoon.
Â
Katelyn Brown and
Mikaylee Henhawk tallied for the Knights in the loss, while
Helen Cooney made 41 saves in goal.
Â
Things started well for the Knights on the afternoon, as the visitors jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the 11:27 mark of the first frame. Brown lit the lamp for Neumann for her team and conference leading 18th goal of the season. The lead would be short-lived though, as Nazareth found an equalizer three minutes later on the power play to knot the game up at one apiece heading to the second.
Â
The Golden Flyers kept their momentum rolling into the second stanza, tacking on two more goals in quick succession in the opening minutes of the period to take a 3-1 lead. Neumann would try its best to keep pace though, as Henhawk scored just three minutes later to make it 3-2 in favor of the hosts with 14:43 remaining in the frame. That would be as close as the Knights would get though, as a fourth goal from Nazareth midway through the period gave the Golden Flyers some insurance as the game headed to the final 20 minutes at a score of 4-2.
Â
Cooney did everything she could to keep the visitors in the contest in the third, but despite making 18 saves in the period, two pucks would get past her. Nazareth's two markers would go unanswered from the Knights as the game finished at a score of 6-2 in favor of the Golden Flyers.
Â
Neumann (9-9-0, 6-3 UCHC) will return home next weekend for a pair of conference matchups versus William Smith College and Elmira College. Puck-drop on Friday, January 31st is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
