ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell to Gwynedd Mercy University 110-89 on Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic East Conference match-up.
Chelsea Keebler led five Knights in double-digits with 18 points as she hit six three-pointers.
Kiara Stovall had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Terea Hunt scored 12 points.
Jaylin Ortiz and
Tierra Harris each added 10 points. Each Knight scored at least five points in the game.
The Griffins held the pace for most of the first quarter and took a 28-20 lead after the first 10 minutes. Gwynedd Mercy scored the first basket of the second quarter, but then Neumann scored seven straight points for a 31-27 score. The Griffins lead would vary from three to seven points as the teams got closer to halftime. Keebler hit a three-pointer to cap the scoring for the first half and cut the deficit to just four, 48-44, at the break.
After the teams traded baskets to start the third quarter, before the Griffins went on an 11-4 run for a 61-51 lead. The Knights answered by scoring five straight points. Keebler hit another three-pointer for a 64-59 score. Gwynedd Mercy then tallied 17 consecutive points to open a 22 advantage, 81-59. The Griffins took an 89-65 lead into the final 10 minutes.
The Knights outscored the Griffins in the fourth quarter but could not overcome the third quarter run and fell 110-89.
Neumann (6-18, 2-9 Atlantic East) will wrap up regular season action on Wednesday at Marywood. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 PM.
