SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team was edged in Atlantic East Conference action at Marywood University 71-69 on Wednesday evening in its regular season finale.
Waheem Lowman lead five Knights with double-digits with 17 points.
Dennis Robinson hit five three-pointers and finished with 16 points.
Sanoussi Abdourhamane netted 12 points.
Justin Smith tallied a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.
Jordyn Kendrick added 10 points.
The Pacers opened the contest by scoring the first seven points. Two three-pointers by Robinson brought the Knights back to within one. Each team went on mini-runs over the next 10 minutes. Another Robinson three-pointer gave Neumann its first lead of the game, 18-16, with 8:23 on the clock. After two tied scores and two lead changes, the Knights took a 33-29 lead into halftime.
The teams traded the lead five times over the first half of the second. The Pacers then built up a 10-point advantage, 59-49, with 6:49 left in regulation. The Knights chipped their way into the deficit and tied the game at 65 and then took a one-point advantage on two Lowman free throws with under a minute left. Marywood answered with a three pointer to take the lead back right away. The Pacers went 3-for-4 from the line in the final 10 seconds for a 71-66 lead. Lowman hit a three at the buzzer, but it wasn't enough.
Neumann (8-17, 2-10 Atlantic East) will now wait to see the results on Saturday to see what's next this season.
