ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team rolled to its second consecutive win to open the 2020 season, picking up a resounding 25-5 victory over Rosemont College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Drew Conlon (3 g, 3 a) led the Neumann attack on the afternoon with six points, while
Colin Blake picked up four goals.
Chris Bellon (3 g),
Eric Conlon (3 g) and
Ryan McNichol (1 g, 2 a) also each chipped in with three point days, while
Brendan Risley picked up the win in goal with 10 saves.
Much like last Friday's season opening win over Alvernia, Neumann jumped all over the Ravens in the first frame. The Knights scored six times in the first fifteen minutes and shut the hosts out to take a commanding 6-0 lead after one quarter.
Drew Conlon led the way with two goals and an assist, while
Eric Conlon, Bellon, Blake and
Max Nice also scored.
Rosemont scored to begin the second stanza to get the Ravens back to within five, but it was as close as the hosts would get the rest of the way. The Knights matched their first period output with six more unanswered goals to blow the game wide open.
Drew Conlon capped off his hat trick at the 9:23 mark, followed by two tallies from Blake and solo markers from
Kyle Daly,
Brett McLaughlin and
Wyatt Belotti to make it 12-1 in favor of the visitors. Rosemont got a goal back late in the half, but Neumann would take a ten goal cushion to halftime.
The third quarter would see more relentless attacking from the Knights, who scored the first five goals after halftime to make it 17-2 with 1:55 left in the frame. Bellon, Daley and
Eric Conlon all added their second goals of the day, while Blake recorded his fourth tally and McNichol scored his first. The Ravens found a consolation marker with 31 seconds left in the quarter but Neumann took a 17-3 lead into the fourth.
With the game well in hand, the visitors continued to roll in the final frame, scoring eight more times.
Chris Augustine and
John McKendry led the way in the quarter, each scoring twice as the Knights cruised to their second win of the season by a score of 25-5.
Neumann (2-0) will look to continue its early season momentum on Saturday, February 22nd when it heads to Drew University. The non-conference contest is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
