Men's Lacrosse Dumps Drew For Third Straight Win

2/22/2020 8:41:00 PM

Box Score MADISON, N.J. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team made it three straight wins to open the 2020 season on Saturday afternoon, taking home a hard fought win at Drew University in non-conference action.

Colin Blake was a force to be reckoned with on the afternoon, recording a team leading eight points on six goals and two assists. Eric Conlon was the only other multi-goal scorer for the Knights with two goals and an assist in the win.

Unlike the team's first two non-competitive games, Neumann was in for a test on Saturday against a strong Drew team. In a preview of tonight's heavyweight boxing title match, the two sides traded haymakers early, combining for seven goals. Neumann got the better of the Rangers with four goals compared to just three for the hosts, led by two goals from Blake. Rich Marshall and Brett McLaughlin also scored for the visitors in the frame as they took a 4-3 lead to the second.

Neumann would pull away a bit early in the second stanza. Using a 4-0 run in the first 3:04 of the quarter, the Knights blitzed their way to an 8-4 lead. Blake tallied a goal and an assist in the run, while Eric Conlon, Ryan McNichol and Max Nice also scored. Unfortunately though, the Knights could not keep their momentum going, allowing Drew right back into the game with a 3-1 jaunt at the end of the half to bring the score-line back to 9-6 at halftime.

The third quarter would show off each team's defensive prowess, as neither offense could get much going. Neumann was only able to find the back of the net once in the quarter via Blake, as the Rangers continued to cut into the visitors' lead. Drew tallied twice in the period, bringing the score to 10-8 heading to the final frame.

The hosts got even closer with a goal just 43 seconds into the fourth quarter, but that was as close as they'd get on the day. Neumann shut down any chance of a Drew comeback with three straight goals from Wyatt Belotti, Eric Conlon and Marshall to regain a four-goal cushion with 5:18 left to play. The Rangers answered back with a goal at 5:11 to keep things interesting, but two late markers from Drew Conlon and Blake would seal the game for the Knights and keep their unblemished record intact.

Neumann (3-0) stays on the road for another non-conference contest at Delaware Valley University on Wednesday, February 26th. Game-time in Doylestown is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
