The COVID-19 pandemic presents unprecedented challenges. In response to these challenges the Atlantic East Conference members have met regularly. With a focus on the health and well-being for all fall sport student-athletes the Atlantic East Conference Presidents Council voted unanimously to postpone fall sport athletics competitions and championships. The conference is exploring options to hold conference competitions and championships in the future, including the Spring 2021 semester.
In conjunction with the Atlantic East Conference’s announcement, Neumann University is postponing all varsity fall sports and club sport teams’ competitions. The Athletics and Recreation Department is examining all possibilities for teams to pursue practice opportunities, conditioning, and individual instruction. These decisions will be predicated on guidance from federal, state, local medical authorities as well as the recommendations from the NCAA, the ACHA, NATA, and other national resources.
Neumann University makes this decision with the health, safety, and well-being of each team member in mind. President, Dr. Chris Domes stated, “Our priority is always the safety and well-being of our students. We want to provide participation opportunities for all students including our intercollegiate and club sport team members, but it is important that we afford students these opportunities in an environment that allows everyone to remain safe. We are exploring every possibility to achieve these goals.”
Director of Athletics and Recreation, Chuck Sack added, “We are focused on assisting all of our student-athletes on each team. What makes our community special is our campus-wide effort to meet each student where they are. We have a strong combination of staff members ready to provide support in a host of areas as we work together to meet the challenge of COVID-19.” All students on a fall sports and club teams will return to campus with the rest of the student body. on August 31st.
