RADNOR, Pa. - The Neumann University men's soccer team dropped its first conference contest of the season on Friday evening, falling by a score of 4-1 on the road at Cabrini University.
Jake Kuzmick was the lone goal scorer for the Knights in the loss, while
Seth Walker made three saves in goal.
In a battle of two unbeaten teams in conference play, the Cavaliers jumped out to an early lead just seven minutes into the match thanks to miscue from a Neumann defender. A poor back pass gifted Cabrini a breakaway that they took full advantage of to make it 1-0. The Knights responded from there though, settling in after the mistake to play a solid remainder of the opening half. The team's best chance to equalize came midway through the frame when a
Marlon Trejo free kick was saved off the line by a diving Cabrini goalkeeper. The game remained 1-0 heading to halftime with the hosts carrying a 4-3 edge in shots.
Neumann pressed to get the game tied in the second stanza, but the Cavaliers had other plans. Cabrini blitzed the Knights for three second half goals to blow a close game wide open. The visitors did receive a consolation marker late in the game from the foot of Kuzmick off a feed from
Jon Yinger in the 86th minute, but it was far too little, too late as the game finished 4-1.
Neumann will look to respond next Wednesday, October 20th when it plays host to Immaculata University on Senior Day. Game-time is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
