Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Stumbles Versus Saints

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team fell in a hard-fought Atlantic East Conference contest on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 1-0 result at home to visiting Marymount University.

Marissa Waters made one save in goal for the Knights, while Liz Purcell, Chloe Britton and Emily Cooper led the team with two shots apiece.

Looking to continue to climb the Atlantic East Conference standings, the Knights pushed hard early on to get the game's first goal. Neumann outshot the Saints 5-4 in the opening half, forcing three saves from the Marymount goalkeeper. Despite the opportunities on goal though, the game remained 0-0 heading to halftime.

As the game moved to the second half, the stalemate continued until late on in the match. Marymount was able to generate more possession in the second stanza, and despite generating just one shot on goal in the period, they were able to make it count. Using a converted penalty kick in the 75th minute, the Saints took a 1-0 lead and then held on for dear life late in the contest as the Knights pressed to equalize the match. Despite several late Neumann chances, the visitors were able to hold off the Knights as the game finished 1-0. The win for Marymount was the first time the matchup did not end up in a draw between the two teams since the Atlantic East was formed in 2018.

Neumann (6-8, 3-2 Atlantic East) will look to bounce back on Wednesday, October 27th when the team heads to Marywood University. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM in Scranton.
