Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Ice Hockey Downs Dutchmen

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team kept its winning ways going on Saturday afternoon, knocking off visiting Lebanon Valley College in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) by a score of 3-2 for its second straight win.

Three different Knights scored in the win, including Joe DiGiulio, Nate Dunning and Nick Martino. Kyle Pantalone got the start in goal and was outstanding, stopping 22 shots in the win.

Ready to use the momentum gained from last night's win over Arcadia, the Knights played another solid contest on Saturday afternoon versus the Dutchmen. Each team generated chances to jump out to an early lead in a back and forth first period, but the goalies from both teams took center stage as the game remained scoreless after one. Neumann outshot Lebanon Valley by a count of 12-9 in the frame, but had nothing to show for their territorial advantage in the opening 20 minutes.

The Knights finally broke through with the game's first goal early in the second stanza. After some hard work from Barry Kneedler in the corner, the senior forward found Martino in the slot, who buried a shot past the Lebanon Valley goaltender to put the Knights up 1-0. Neumann continued to press forward in the period and the team was rewarded again by its red hot power play midway through the frame. This time it was Dunning who would find the back of the net via a snipe of a wrist shot from the point at the 13:40 mark of period to make it 2-0. The Dutchmen applied some late period pressure in the Neumann end, but the Knights were able to hang on and hold the two-goal advantage into intermission.

Lebanon Valley wasted no time making things interesting early in the third, scoring just 3:40 into the period to cut the Neumann lead to one at 2-1. Besides the early goal though, the Knights played a very solid stanza with the lead, getting pucks deep into the Dutchmen end while running down the clock. Late in the period as the visitors began to pinch their defensemen forward to try and find an equalizer, the Knights were able to take advantage. Dionne Demke found his way behind the Dutchmen defense on a breakaway, but his attempt was denied as the game stayed 2-1. However, as the junior forward corralled his own rebound, DiGiulio raced to the high slot, received a pass from Demke and ripped home Neumann's third goal of the game to make it 3-1 with 3:10 left to play.

Lebanon Valley was able to keep things interesting by scoring with its goalie pulled with 22 seconds remaining, but the 3-2 score-line was as close as the visitors would get. The Dutchmen did get a late shot toward the Neumann goal, but Pantalone was there to shut the door and hand the Knights their second UCHC victory in the past two days.

Neumann (2-4, 2-2 UCHC) will look to stay in the win column next weekend when it hits the road for a pair of games. The Knights will take on Chatham University next Friday, November 19th in Pittsburgh at 7:00 PM.
