Women’s Basketball Falls in Overtime at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell at Widener University 67-64 in overtime on Tuesday evening.
 
Chelsea Keebler led the Knights with 18 points, including five three-pointers. Allyson Wills netted 16 points and Jacqueline Wardrop added 10. The game featured 10 lead changes and five tied scores.
 
After two free throws by the Pride to start the scoring, Keebler hit a three. Leading by one, 10-9, the Knights ended the first quarter on a 9-0 run for a 19-9 lead after the first 10 minutes. Neumann held the lead throughout the second quarter. Wills hit a shot from downtown just before the buzzer and the Knights took a 32-24 lead into halftime.
 
Widener opened the second half by scoring the first nine points to take a 33-32 edge. After trading baskets, the Pride would keep the lead for the rest of the quarter and held a 48-43 advantage heading into the final quarter.
 
The first part of the final quarter went back and forth, and the teams were knotted at 53 with five minutes left on the clock. Neumann scored the next seven points, but Widener answered by scoring eight of the next nine points and the teams were tied at 61 with 1:14 left in regulation.
 
Neither team could find the basket over the final minute and the teams went into overtime knotted at 61. The Pride scored three points to open overtime, followed by three points by the Knights for another tie game. With 10 seconds remaining, Widener hit a jumper. The Knights missed their shot at the other end of the court and fouled. The Pride went 1-for-2 from the line for a 67-64 lead with five seconds on the clock. Neumann got a shot off at the buzzer, but it didn't go, and Widener held on for the win.
 
Neumann (2-5) will take a break over Thanksgiving and will head to Lancaster Bible next Tuesday. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
