Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Ice Hockey Falls to Falcons

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell in non-conference action on Friday evening, dropping a 3-2 result on the road at Albertus Magnus College.

Brady Mistler and Mykyta Volubuyev scored for the Knights on the evening, while Kyle Pantalone stopped 35 shots in a losing effort in goal.

Looking to string together consecutive wins, the Knights opened the contest strongly, registering 13 first frame shots to build much needed road momentum against and Albertus Magnus team that had recorded six straight wins. Unfortunately the high number of shots did not correlate to the scoreboard, as none of those attempts found their way past the Falcons goaltender as the game remained tied 0-0 after one period of play.

Neumann continued to knock on the door in the second stanza and finally broke the ice with the games first goal just 2:24 into the period via Mistler. The sophomore forward potted his fifth goal of the season off a feed from Dionne Demke to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. The advantage would be short-lived though, as a Falcon goal just 1:06 later leveled the contest at one apiece with under 17 minutes left to play in the period. The score would remain that way the rest of the period thanks to Pantalone, who's 16 saves in the frame kept the visitors in the matchup.

Albertus Magnus continued to press in the third and earned its first lead of the game at the 11:44 mark of the period to take a late 2-1 lead. Neumann would not go quietly though, fighting back with an equalizing goal of its own just three minutes later. Volobuyev was able to find the back of the net off an assist from Luke Croucher with 5:20 left in the contest to tie things up at 2-2. The game looked destined for overtime, but a late power play for the Falcons completely changed the complexion of the contest. The hosts were able to score with the man advantage with 2:12 left to play to take a stranglehold of the game. The Knights pressed late to find another tying goal, but Albertus Magnus was able to hang on for the 3-2 win for their seventh consecutive victory.

Neumann (3-6-1) will look to shake off the loss as it gets right back to action tomorrow afternoon with another non-conference game at Rivier University. Puck-drop is scheduled for 2:20 PM.
