MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Neumann University women's basketball team battled but dropped a 64-55 decision to Misericordia University in the consolation game of the MSU Holiday Tournament on Thursday afternoon.
Terea Hunt led the Knights with 17 points and was named to the All-Tournament team.
Lauren Klieber tallied 15 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
The Cougars opened the game by scoring the first 14 points. A free throw by Hunt put the Knights on the board with 5:44 left in the first quarter. Over the final four minutes of the quarter, Neumann went on a 10-2 run to pull to within seven, 18-11.
Misericordia doubled up Neumann in the second quarter 10-5 to take a 28-16 lead into halftime.
Down 33-20 in the third quarter, the Knights went on a 10-0 run to pull with a single possession, 33-30, with four minutes left on the clock. The Cougars answered with the next six points to extend their lead back to nine. A buzzer beating layup and foul put Misericordia up 47-35 heading into the final quarter.
The Cougars held a lead between eight and 12 points throughout the fourth quarter to come away with the win.
Neumann (5-7) heads into conference play in the New Year. The Knights will travel to Centenary on January 5 to face the Cyclones. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 PM.
