ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team used a strong start to defeat St. Mary's College of Maryland 66-52 on Thursday in an exhibition contest.
Kyson Rawls netted 25 points for the Knights, going 9-for-10 from the line.
Matt Porreca netted 11 and
Kamal Yellowdy added 10.
Jordan Smith grabbed 11 rebounds and added nine points.
Justin Smith had nine rebounds and eight points.
With the teams tied at six early, the Knights went on a 19-3 run to jump out to a 25-9 lead. The Seahawks came within six, 27-19, with three minutes left in the first half. Neumann took a seven-point advantage, 30-23, into the break.
The Knights held a double-digit lead for a majority of the second half. However, with just over four minutes left in regulation St. Mary's pulled back to within six, 54-48. Neumann answered with six straight points to increase its lead to 12, 60-48. Down the stretch, the Knights went 10-for-10 at the line to seal the win.
Neumann will next head to Cairn on Wednesday, March 3. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 PM.
