Women's Ice Hockey Falls at Stevenson

2/27/2021 10:15:00 PM

Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team fell to Stevenson University for the second consecutive night on Saturday, dropping a 5-2 result in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) play.

Georgi Rowland tallied twice for the Knights in the loss, while Alexa Lamplugh stopped 46 shots in goal.

Eager to even the weekend series with the Mustangs after last night's 3-2 home loss, Neumann opened the contest on the front foot. Rowland spearheaded an early push from the Knights, taking matters into her own hands to build the visitors an early 2-0 lead. The freshman forward lit the lamp 2:24 into the game off a feed from Katelyn Brown to make it 1-0, then doubled the Neumann lead just 14 seconds later after the ensuing face off to stun Stevenson and make it 2-0.

Despite the early markers though, the Knights could not continue their positive momentum. The Mustangs blitzed their way back into the contest with four unanswered goals in an eight minute span midway through the period to turn Neumann's two-goal advantage to a two-goal deficit at the end of the first frame.

Lamplugh kept the visitors in the game in the second stanza, shutting out Stevenson in the frame with an outstanding 21 saves. The Knights could only muster five shots in the period though, as the score remained 4-2 moving to the third.

Neumann attempted to fight back in the final frame, but the team was stymied again by a smothering Stevenson defense. The Knights could not find the back of the net again and the hosts tacked on a late insurance tally to take home a 5-2 conference victory.

Neumann (1-2-1) returns to action next weekend for a weekend series with Alvernia University. Puck-drop in Reading next Friday, March 5th is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
