ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team held off Clarks Summit University 70-59 on Saturday afternoon in the finale of the spring 2021 season.
Kyson Rawls continued to the lead Neumann, netting 17 points.
Matt Porreca added 12 points, including going 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Justin Smith added four blocks.
The game featured big runs by both teams throughout the contest. After going back and forth to start, and the score knotted at 11, the Knights went on a 13-4 run to build a nine-point advantage, 24-15. Over the rest of the first half, the Defenders went on a 14-4 run to take a 29-28 edge into the break.
The Knights scored the first seven points of the second half for a 35-29 advantage. Each team went on small runs over the next few minutes, and with 3:51 left on the clock the teams were tied at 53.
Jake Giles hit a layup from Rawls to put Neumann back in the lead, 55-53. A jumper by Porreca and a layup-and-one by Rawls extended the lead to seven, 60-53. The Defenders had their chances pull close, but Porreca went 4-for-4 from the line down the stretch to seal the win.
Neumann finishes the spring 2021 season 2-1.
