IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team dropped the first game at Immaculata University 11-3 in five innings on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won the nightcap 9-3 to earn the split.
In game one, the Mighty Macs got on the board with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning.
The Knights used a Mighty Mac error and put three unearned runs on the board in the third inning.
Kristen Pagliaro singled to knock in
Alyssa Richard and
Ashley Leicht. Pagliaro came around to score on a double by
Rachel Albertson for a 3-2 Neumann lead.
Immaculata took the lead right back in the bottom of the third as it plated five runs for a 7-3 lead. The Mighty Macs took advantage of some Neumann errors and scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game and win 11-3.
Jess Sarni started the game and went 2.2 innings. She allowed seven runs on seven hits.
Janiece Robles went 2.0 innings and allowed four unearned runs on three hits.
Neumann rebounded in game two. Albertson hit a two-run single in the top of the first to get the Knights on the board early. Albertson came around to score on a double by
Elizabeth Shire for a 3-0 lead. Immaculata got one run back in the home half of the first.
In the top of the second Pagliaro hit her first collegiate homerun, a two-run shot, for a 5-1 Neumann lead. Albertson followed with a solo homerun. Richard and
Vanessa Bowen hit back-to-back doubles for a 7-1 Knights lead.
Bowen knocked in the eighth run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Immaculata plated a single run in the fourth and fifth for an 8-3 score.
To round out the scoring,
Bri Lagroteria doubled in
Emily Reid in the seventh inning for a 9-3 game. The Mighty Macs put two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh but could not push a run across.
Ashlynne Scardino went 5.1 innings in the circle for the win. She allowed three runs, two earned, on nine hits. Sarni finished the game, striking out three in 1.2 scoreless innings.
Neumann (8-6, 6-6 Atlantic East) will host Marywood on Monday afternoon in a rescheduled Atlantic East doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
