Softball Drops Doubleheader at Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team dropped an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader at Cabrini University on Friday afternoon. Game scores were 13-7 and 10-6.
 
In the first game, Jess Sarni started in the circle. She went 4.2 innings and allowed nine runs, eight earned, on 11 hits. Janiece Robles went 1.1 innings and allowed four runs on four hits.
 
Cabrini opened the scoring with a solo homerun in the second inning. Neumann got on the board with two runners on base in the top of the third. Morgan Fitzpatrick singled to score Kristen Pagliaro. Elizabeth Shire scored on a Cavalier error to put the Knights up 2-1. Cabrini took back the lead, 3-2, with a pair of runs in the fourth.
 
In the top of the fifth, Rachel Albertson hit a two-run homerun to grab the lead back 4-3. Fitzpatrick also hit a solo shot for a 5-3 score.
 
The Cavalier hit two homeruns of their own in the bottom of the fifth, a two-run blast and a grand slam, for a 9-5 advantage.
 
The Knights got one run back in the sixth as Shire drew a bases-loaded walk to score Emily Reid. However, in the home half of the sixth, Cabrini plated four more runs for a 13-6 score. Sarni hit a homerun in the top of the seventh, but the Knights couldn't get more of a rally and fell 13-7.
 
In game two, Ashlynne Scardino started and went 1.1 innings. She allowed six runs, two earned, on five hits. Ashley Mazzeo went 4.2 innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits.
 
Again, Cabrini opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first. Neumann plated one run in the top of the second as Reid scored Fitzpatrick. The Cavaliers answered with four runs in the home half of the second for a 6-1 score.
 
In the top of the third, Pagliaro and Shire each hit two-run homeruns to pull the Knights to within one, 6-5. Reid knocked in the final run for Neumann in the fifth for a 7-6 score. The Cavaliers scored some insurance runs in the fifth and sixth to come away with the 10-6 final.  
 
Neumann (8-8, 6-8 Atlantic East) will host Cabrini for another doubleheader tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM.
