GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - The Neumann University men's tennis team opened up its 2021 campaign on the road at Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 7-2 in the Atlantic East Conference match.
Evan King paced the Knights in the loss, winning both of his matches at first single and first doubles on the day.
Opening with doubles matches to start the contest, Neumann took an early advantage as King and partner
Sean Flannery picked up a comfortable 8-3 win at first doubles to put the Knights up 1-0 overall.
Patrick Rudy and
Seth Walker tried their best to make it a 2-0 lead for the visitors at second doubles, but the pair lost a heart-breaker in a tiebreak by a count of 8-7 (10-5). Gwynedd Mercy took the third doubles match by default, recording a 2-1 lead as the contest moved to singles play.
King continued his excellent day for the Knights at first singles, easily winning by a score of 6-0, 6-1 to level the overall match score at 2-2. However, that would be the last point Neumann would earn on the afternoon. The Knights fell in second, third, fourth and fifth singles as the Griffins prevailed in the match by a count of 7-2.
Neumann (0-1) will look to get into the win column next Wednesday, April 21st when it heads to Cabrini University for another conference matchup. Game-time is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
