ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's tennis team began its 2021 season at home on Saturday afternoon, hosting Gwynedd Mercy University in an Atlantic East Conference match.
Hannah Asaka and
Kylie Seeger competed hard at first doubles, winning the first point of the match before falling by a score of 8-2. Asaka's athleticism and Seeger's steadfastness kept the two within striking distance for a good portion of the match but the young Knights could not keep pace with a tough Griffins team. Gwynedd Mercy won at second and third doubles by default to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.
In singles,
Nicole Turner shined in her first ever match at third singles. Despite losing 6-0, 6-0 Turner got better as the match wore on and took valuable experience that she can use later in the season. Asaka fought hard at first singles but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-1 in a match where the score did not reflect how close it was. Seeger battled at second singles, but fell by a score of 6-0, 6-0. The Griffins took home wins at fourth and fifth singles by default to complete the sweep.
Neumann returns to the court next Wednesday, April 21st as it plays host to Cabrini University. The match is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
