BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at Moravian College on Friday afternoon. The Knights won the games by scores of 11-6 and 13-7.
Ryan Lopez and
Zach Ray each picked up three hits in game one while Ray knocked in four runs. Lopez scored three runs.
Will Hart started the first game and went 3.0 innings. He allowed one run on two hits and struck out six.
Brennan Hatala picked up the win, going next three innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits. He struck out four.
Pat Leighton started the seventh inning and
Vin Vargas finished the game.
The Knights didn't waste anytime and plated four runs in the top of the first inning. With two runners on base,
Cris Diaz singled in the first run.
Shawn Vega and
Tyler Ramos had back-to-back RBI hits in the inning for the 4-0 lead.
The Greyhounds got one run back with a solo homerun in the bottom of the first. Neumann's bats stayed hot and scored three more in the second, using some key hits and taking advantage of some Moravian errors.
In the top of the third, Ray hit a three-run homerun to put the Knights up by a 10-1 score. Lopez hit a solo shot in the fifth to increase Neumann's lead to 11-1.
Moravian scored three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh, but the Neumann lead held, and the Knights came away with the 11-6 game one win.
In game two,
Marcus White had four hits, three RBI and scored two runs. Ray added another three hits.
Andrew Curran started the game and went 5.0 innings for the win. He allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits and struck out three.
Billy Hunt and
Tyler Szilagyi each went an inning on the mound.
Nick Glebocki hit an RBI single in the second inning to put Neumann on the board. Moravian responded right back to knot the game at one.
The Knights strung together seven hits in the top of the third to score six runs. White, Glebocki,
Andrew Fowler and
Anthony Basciano had back-to-back-to-back-to-back RBI hits in the inning. Neumann scored three more runs in the fourth, thanks for some Greyhound miscues. The Knights wrapped up their scoring in the sixth inning with another three runs. Neumann took game two 13-7.
Neumann (5-1) get back into conference action when it hosts Immaculata next Friday for a single game. First-pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
