ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team split a doubleheader with Cabrini University on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action. The Cavaliers won the first game 8-3 while the Knights took the nightcap 1-0.
Prior to the games, the Knights honored their two seniors:
Bri Lagroteria and
Rachel Albertson.
Ashley Mazzeo started the first game and went one inning, allowing three runs on four hits.
Ashlynne Scardino went 1+ innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits.
Janiece Robles went the final five innings and allowed one run.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. In the bottom of the second,
Alyssa Richard doubled to knock in
Kaylee Fiocca and put the Knights on the board. Cabrini added three more runs in the third for a 7-1 lead.
The Knights added an unearned run in the fifth as Richard walked and came around to score on an error after Lagroteria grounded out.
In the seventh,
Emily Reid doubled and came around to score on a single by Lagroteria. The Knights loaded the bases but could not get more runs across and fell 8-3.
In game two,
Jess Sarni pitched a complete game for the win. She went 7.0 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits.
The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth. Albertson doubled to lead off the innings. She moved to third on a groundout and came home to score on an RBI groundout by
Morgan Fitzpatrick.
Neumann (9-9, 7-9 Atlantic East) will wrap up the regular season next Saturday when it hosts Marywood for a pair of contests.
