ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team fell in both contests of a doubleheader against Wesley College on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action. The Wolverines won by scores of 7-2 and 5-4.
Kristen Pagliaro had three hits in game one.
Ashlynne Scardino went 4.2 innings and allowed six runs on 11 hits.
Janiece Robles pitched the final 2.1 innings.
The Knights got on the board first as they took advantage of a Wolverines error. Wesley answered back in the top of the third to tie the game at one. Neumann added another run on a Wesley miscue for take a 2-1 lead after four innings.
The difference in the game came in the top of the fifth when the Wolverines tallied five runs on six hits to take a 6-2 lead. Wesley added another run in the sixth on a homerun.
Neumann put some runners on base in the seventh but could not get any runs across and Wesley took game one 7-2.
In game two,
Vanessa Bowen had two hits and three RBI.
Jess Sarni added three hits and she went 7.0 innings in the circle. She allowed five runs, four earned, on 13 hits.
After getting out some trouble in the top of the first, the Knights scored two runs in the home half. With the bases loaded, Bowen hit a single up the middle to score
Morgan Fitzpatrick. Sarni then knocked in
Elizabeth Shire for a 2-0 lead.
The Wolverines scored a run in the third and took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Wesley hit its second homerun of the afternoon in the sixth.
The Knights tied the game at four when Bowen hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth. Wesley took back the lead with an unearned run in the top of the seventh. Neumann went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to fall 5-4.
Neumann (4-4, 2-4 Atlantic East) will head to Gwynedd Mercy on Tuesday for a conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
