GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team finished off the season sweep of Gwynedd Mercy University with a pair of Atlantic East Conference wins on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights won the first game 7-1 followed by a 9-3 score in the nightcap.
Janiece Robles started the first game in the circle and picked up the complete game win, her first collegiate victory. She went 7.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits and struck out a pair.
The Knights got on the board in the top of the third. After two walks to start the inning,
Alyssa Richard sacrificed the runners to second and third.
Bri Lagroteria and
Kristen Pagliaro hit back-to-back RBI singles for a 2-0 lead. Lagroteria came around to score on a sacrifice fly by
Rachel Albertson for a 3-0 advantage.
The Griffins scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth.
In the seventh, Neumann put the game out of reach with four runs. Lagroteria knocked in her second run of the game. Albertson against knocked in Lagroteria, this time with an RBI single.
Elizabeth Shire hit a two-run double to score Pagliaro and Albertson for the 7-1 final.
In game two, Pagliaro stayed hot with three hits and three RBI.
Ashley Mazzeo started the game and picked up her first collegiate win. She went 4.1 innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits.
Ashlynne Scardino went the final 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on three hits.
Gwynedd Mercy scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first for an early lead. Neumann tied the game at one in the third as Pagliaro hit an RBI single to score
Emily Reid.
The Knights took the lead in the fourth as
Kaylee Fiocca hit a sacrifice bunt and
Vanessa Bowen scored. Shire knocked in Pagliaro in the fifth for a 3-1 lead. Fiocca scored on an RBI fielders choice by Reid in the sixth for the 4-1 score.
Leading 4-1 heading into the seventh, Neumann plated five runs to seal the win. Fitzpatrick hit an RBI single to score Shire.
Jess Sarni came around to score on an error on the play. Reid knocked in Fitzpatrick. Pagliaro then singled to knock in Reid and
Ashley Leicht.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Griffins put two runs on the board, but the Knights came away with the 9-3 win.
Neumann (6-4, 4-4 Atlantic East) will host Immaculata for a pair on Friday afternoon to kick off the weekend series with the Mighty Macs. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
