ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's lacrosse team fought back from a first half deficit on Wednesday evening to claim a 17-12 come from behind victory over Wesley College in Atlantic East Conference play.
Reigning Atlantic East Conference Offensive Player of the Week Lindsay Fagan continued her outstanding play with a 10-point night on eight goals and two assists.
Brylin Adams played the role of facilitator on the evening, leading the team with five assists to go along with three goals.
Keri Mallon (3 g) and
Ally Bee (2 g) also picked up multi-goal games, while
Catriona Corrigan made 19 saves in goal in the win.
Hoping to earn their second conference win in as many games, the Knights opened the contest strongly, scoring the game's first four goals and five of the game's first six tallies to jump out to an early 5-1 lead at the 21:22 mark. Fagan and Adams accounted for four of the markers with two goals apiece in the run, while the other goal came from a sister-to-sister pass and finish from
Alison Mallon to her sister Keri.
The Wolverines took over control of the half from there though, fighting back with four quick, unanswered goals of their own to knot the matchup at 5-5 with just over 15 minutes left to play. Fagan notched her third tally of the game at 14:37 to nudge the Knights back in front, but three more unanswered Wesley goals gave the visitors their first lead of the night at 8-6 with 12:50 left in the half. The two teams traded a pair of goals late in the half, as
Keri Mallon and Fagan scored again to send the game to halftime with Wesley up by a score of 10-8.
Neumann used the halftime break to flip the matchup's momentum. The Knights wasted no time equalizing the contest, as Fagan and Bee scored in the opening 3:09 of the half to tie things up at 10-10. Wesley retook the lead at the 22:58 mark, but it would be the last time the Wolverines found themselves in front. Using a 6-0 run over a stretch of 8:44 midway through the second stanza, the hosts pushed their way back in front for good. Adams was the difference-maker during the rally for the Knights, assisting on four consecutive goals and then punctuating the run with a goal of her own to make it 16-11 with 10:26 left to play. Wesley tried to make it interesting with a goal at 9:35 to make it 16-12, but that was as close as the visitors would get. Fagan put an exclamation mark on Neumann's second conference win of the season with her eighth goal of the day with 6:05 left to seal the 17-12 victory.
Neumann (3-1, 2-1 Atlantic East) will look to continue its momentum this Saturday, April 10th when the team plays host to Marymount University. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
