ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's soccer team couldn't keep its momentum rolling on Wednesday afternoon, falling to visiting Widener University by a score of 3-1 in non-conference action.
Marlon Trejo continued his excellent campaign with his fifth goal of the season, while
Seth Walker stopped six shots in goal on the day.
Widener jumped all over the Knights early in the contest. 30 seconds after ringing the crossbar with their opening shot of the game, the Pride started a scoring barrage in just the fourth minute. The visitors flicked a header in behind the Neumann back-line to give their forward a breakaway and he tucked a ball in off the left post to make it 1-0. The Pride was hardly done though, scoring in the ninth and 21st minutes to create a mountain to climb for the Knights at 3-0. The hosts would not go quietly though, as Trejo drew a foul in the box then finished off a penalty kick to make it 3-1 heading to the halftime break.
Neumann took the play to the Pride in the second half with much of the game being played in the Widener end, but the Knights could not create anything offensively. Despite five shots in the period, the hosts couldn't put a ball past the visiting goalkeeper as the two goal deficit remained. The mountain was just a bit too high to climb for the Knights on the day as they would fall by a score of 3-1.
Neumann (3-5) will look to come back with a win in its next outing this Saturday, September 25th at Lebanon Valley College. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
