ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Neumann University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference decision to host Lebanon Valley College on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 4-2.
Marlon Trejo and
Sam Clavijo tallied for the Knights in the loss, while
Seth Walker made six saves in goal.
After falling behind early in Wednesday's home loss to Widener, the Knights were eager to start strong in Saturday's contest. Things started brilliantly for the Neumann on the day, as Trejo fired home the game's first tally less than a minute into the contest to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.
Alex Zagal had a few chances to double the Neumann lead midway through the half but his efforts nearly missed as the one goal advantage remained. As the Knights began to tire late in the half, the Dutchmen took control of the play. Lebanon Valley scored twice in the final 15 minutes of the half to take a 2-1 lead into the halftime break.
Neumann faced an uphill battle attempting to climb back into the contest in the second stanza. The one goal deficit was tough enough, but when two Knight players were sent off with red cards early in the half the team really had its work cut out for it. Despite the 2-1 disadvantage and playing down two men, a spirited group of Knights continued to fight. After earning a free kick just outside the Lebanon Valley box, Clavijo curled an excellent free kick into the upper-90 to level the score at 2-2 against all odds with 23:34 left in regulation.
Neumann did it's best to keep pace with the Dutchmen the rest of the way and earn a road result, but the two man advantage proved too much to overcome. Playing in the Knights' end for the majority of the rest of the half, Lebanon Valley again took a lead in the 72nd minute, then added an insurance marker with 11 minutes to go to seal the 4-2 victory.
Neumann (3-6) will look to shake off the defeat before returning home on Tuesday, September 28th for another non-conference matchup versus Penn State Harrisburg. The game is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
