Men’s Basketball Picks Up Second Straight Conference Road Win

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team scored an 85-66 victory in Scranton on Saturday against Marywood University for its second Atlantic East Conference victory.
 
Four players reached double-figures, led by Jalen Vaughns with a team high 20 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Tony James tallied 14 points. Ryan Starr netted 12 points and handed out seven assists while KJ Speller added 10 to round out the rest of the team leaders.
 
The Knights started strong, building a 13-7 lead and continued the stretch when Vaughns connected on an alley-oop layup to lead 21-16 midway through the first half. A James jumper stretched the lead to double digits (35-23) with just under five minutes remaining. Vaughns would cap the first half with a buzzer beating layup to give the Knights a 47-31 lead at the break. For the half Neumann shot 19-of-28 from the field and recorded 15 team assists.
 
A Diby Keita layup would continue the Knights scoring to push the lead to twenty-four (57-33). Uche Unegbu would follow making a running jumper to put Neumann out of reach 71-41 with 9:51 remaining in the second stanza. Jordan Smith added a pair of free throws to keep the lead at 80-51 with just under five minutes left. Smith would cap the Knights scoring in the closing moments for the 85-66 victory.
 
For the game Neumann shot 61% (36-of-59) from the field connecting on five three points and making all eight foul shots. The Knights held the Pacers to 40.3% from the field.
 
Neumann also held the glass outrebounding Marywood 39-22. While nine different Knights reached the scoring column.
 
Neumann (10-5, 2-0 Atlantic East) returns to action on Monday night in a rescheduled contest against Cabrini University. Action is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
