Men’s Basketball Drops First Conference Contest

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball dropped an 89-65 game to Marymount University on Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic East Conference matchup.
 
Jalen Vaughns led the Knights with 20 points and eight rebounds. Justin Smith netted 13 points. Tony James added 10. Ryan Starr handed out seven assists.
 
The Knights held an early 4-1 lead, but one of the Saints' 11 three-pointers tied the game at four. With Marymount leading 8-7, it went on an 11-2 run, including three from beyond the arc, to take a 19-9 advantage. The Knights answered with a 10-2 run to pull within two, 21-19. The Saints continued with their hot three-pointer shooting and scored 12 straight points for a 33-19 score with just under five minutes remaining in the first half. Neumann finished the half on a 15-4 run, capped with a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Starr, for a 37-34 score at the break.
 
The teams traded baskets to start the second half, but with 17:13 on the clock Marymount had built its lead back up to double-digits, 48-38. A layup by Smith midway through the half brough Neumann to within four, 60-56. Over the next three minutes, the Saints went on a 12-4 run to take a 72-60 advantage. Marymount would hold a double-figure lead the rest of regulation to come away with the 89-65 win.
 
Neumann (11-6, 3-1 Atlantic East) will head to Cabrini next Saturday for more conference action starting at 4:00 PM.
