PITTSTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team dropped a tight 3-2 result on the road at King's College on Saturday afternoon, falling for the second consecutive day in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
Â
Richie Brusco led the way with a goal and an assist on the night, while
Tyler Kulas also scored.
Cal Ambrose got the start in goal, making 37 saves in the loss.
Â
Neumann got the start it was looking for on Saturday as it attempted to rebound from Friday's loss at Wilkes. The Knights got the lone goal of the first frame thanks to Kulas, who found the back of the net at the 6:12 mark to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Ambrose kept that lead intact the rest of the period, making 10 saves to shutout the Monarchs in the opening 20 minutes and send the game to the second with Neumann up a goal.
Â
It didn't take long in the second for things to change. King's scored just 11 seconds into the period to knot things up 1-1 and flip the game's momentum. The Monarchs dominated the second stanza, outshooting Neumann by a count of 20-12 on their way to taking a lead late in the period. The hosts put a second marker on the board at the 13:19 mark and kept the Knights off the board as they took a 2-1 lead into the third.
Â
The Monarchs pressed forward and found a third goal to start the final frame just over three minutes into the period to make it 3-1. Neumann wouldn't quit and continued to try and get back in the contest, but a stout King's defense made it tough. The Knights did get one goal back through Brusco at the 13:47 mark to make it 3-2, but despite a barrage of 21 third period shots on the Monarch goal, the visitors couldn't find an equalizer as the game finished 3-2 in favor of King's.
Â
Neumann (6-10-1, 3-7-1 UCHC) will hope for better fortune next weekend when the team heads to Lebanon Valley College on Friday, January 28th. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
