ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell to Marymount University 55-44 on Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic East Conference matchup.
Jacqueline Wardrop netted 11 points to lead the Knights.
Tierra Harris and
Madison Stewart each added nine.
Terea Hunt grabbed eight rebounds, blocked three shots and handed out four assists.
Marymount scored the first six points of the game and built a lead as large as eight, 13-5, in the first quarter. Neumann scored seven straight points, capped by a three-pointer by Wardrop, to pull within one, 13-12. The Saints netted the final basket of the first quarter for a 15-12 score.
Wardrop opened the second quarter with a layup and one to tie the game at 15. After a Saints free throw, a layup by Harris put Neumann in the lead, 17-16. Marymount scored the final 11 points of the half to take a 27-17 lead into the break.
The Saints would build their lead throughout the third quarter, leading by as many as 19, 44-25, with under a minute on the clock. The Knights scored the final four points of the quarter for a 44-29 game heading into the fourth.
The Knights chipped their way into the deficit and pulled to within eight, 48-40, with 1:48 on the clock. The Saints went 5-for-6 from the line in the final minute to keep Neumann from getting any closer and take the 55-44 final.
Neumann (7-9, 2-2 Atlantic East) will host Cabrini in a rescheduled game on Monday. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 PM.
