ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team opened 2022 with a 90-67 win over Penn State Brandywine on Monday evening.
Jalen Vaughns continued to pace the Knights, netting 30 points and going 8-for-9 from the free throw line. The sophomore also grabbed 16 rebounds for a double-double.
TJ Lewis scored 15 points.
Tony James and
Ishmael Marshall each tallied 14.
Over the first 10 minutes of the game, there were six lead changes and three tied scores. Leading by two, 34-32, with 6:43 on the clock, Neumann went on a 15-7 run to end the half. The Knights took a 10-point advantage, 49-39, into halftime.
The Knights started to build their lead more and midway through the second half held a 16-point lead, 70-54. The Lions would pull to within 12, 75-63, after three free throws, but that was as close as the score would get as Neumann answered with the next nine points.
Momo Kortue netted the final basket of the contest as the Knights came away with the 90-67 win.
Neumann (8-5) is slated to open Atlantic East Conference action on Wednesday as it travels to Centenary. Tip-off is at 8:00 PM.
