ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team ended a four-game losing skid with an emphatic 8-3 home victory over Arcadia University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action on Saturday night.
Â
Eight different Knights scored in the win, led by
Nick Martino who recorded a goal and three assists.
Luke Croucher (1 g, 2 a) had a three-point night, while goalie
Cal Ambrose stopped 32 shots on the evening.
Â
Looking to bounce back after a tough overtime loss last night in Hershey, Neumann started strong in Saturday's contest.
Dexton Mozell scored just 26 seconds into the game to stun Arcadia and give the hosts an early 1-0 advantage. The visitors found their footing and leveled the matchup at the 6:28 mark, but the Knights went on a roll the remainder of the period. Neumann scored three times in the final 11 minutes of the period to take a commanding 4–1 lead after one. Martino scored on a deflected shot from the slot for the second Neumann goal,
Pasquale Demitrio tallied his first career goal with a snipe of a wrist shot from the high slot to make it 3-1, and
Luke Croucher punctuated the period by finishing off a tic-tac-toe passing play on the power-play to bring the score to 4-1.
Â
The Knights kept their foot on the gas early in the second stanza, as
Mykyta Volobuyev picked up a goal to make it 5-1 after deflecting home a shot on a 2-on-1 after joining the rush as a defenseman. Arcadia answered back with a goal at the 4:42 mark on the power-play, but
Evan Hoey brought the lead right back to a four goal margin with a top shelf wrist shot that flew over the Arcadia goalie's shoulder to make it 6-2. The visitors then added a late period tally to keep things interesting moving to the third with the score 6-3.
Â
Neumann did not give Arcadia any life as the game moved to the final frame. The scoreline remained the same until midway through the period, when
Nate Dunning slotted a puck past the Arcadia net-minder on an odd-man rush to make it 7-3.
Barry Kneedler then sealed the contest just 24 seconds later by banging home a rebound to give the Knights a comfortable 8-3 advantage. The game would finish at the same score, giving the hosts a much needed win in the standings as they attempt to climb the UCHC leader board.
Â
Neumann (7-11-1, 4-8-1 UCHC) will have a week to prepare for its next conference game on Friday, February 4th versus Stevenson University. Puck-drop against the Mustangs is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
