ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University women's soccer team opened Atlantic East Conference action with a 2-0 win at Marymount (Va.) University on Saturday afternoon.
Rebecca Spence had a goal and an assist.
Liz Purcell also scored for the Knights.
Leona Macrina made three saves in net for the shutout win.
The Knights tallied four shots overall, two on goal. They made the two on goal count as both shots ended up in the back of the net.
Anna Poehlmann and
Maddy Crossley had the other two shot attempts for Neumann.
The Saints had 12 shots, but the Knights defense kept Marymount to the outside and only three ended up on net.
Spence opened the scoring in the 16
th minute. In the 28
th minute, Purcell doubled Neumann's lead off an assist from Spence.
Neumann (4-6-2, 1-0 Atlantic East) continues conference action on Wednesday when it travels to Cabrini. Action is slated to get underway at 6:00 PM.
