ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team doubled up Immaculata University 4-2 on Tuesday evening in an Atlantic East Conference match-up.
Riley Adinolfi scored two penalty kick goals for the Knights.
Kaitlin Thomas tallied two assists in the win.
Leona Macrina made four saves in net. Neumann out shot Immaculata 17-8 overall and 8-6 on net.
Adinolfi opened the scoring with her first penalty kick goal in the 24
th minute. Thomas made her way down the field, got a shot off and was fouled in the box. Adinolfi then sank her shot into the top right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.
In the 31
st minute,
Liz Purcell broke down the sideline and turned towards the net. The junior was taken down as she entered the box, and the Knights were awarded another penalty kick. Adinolfi converted her second penalty kick, once again in the top right corner, for a 2-0 lead.
In the 35
th minute, Thomas took the ball away in the center of the field and passed to Purcell. Purcell took her shot that curved into the top left corner of the net to give Neumann a 3-0 advantage.
The Mighty Macs got on the board early in the second half with a goal in the 48
th minute.
In the 73
rd minute, Thomas and the Immaculata keeper raced towards the ball at the top of the box. Thomas was able to get control and while the keeper was trying to get back in the net, Thomas sent the ball to
Rebecca Spence, who put it in the back of the net for a 4-1 lead.
Immaculata scored again in the 79
th minute to cap the scoring and Neumann came away with the 4-2 win.
Neumann (5-7-2, 2-1 Atlantic East) heads to Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday for more conference action beginning at 12:00 PM.
