TOWSON, Md. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell short, 63-60, at Goucher College in the matchup of the Renie Amoss Tip-Off on Friday evening.
Lauren Klieber led the Knights with a double-double, 21 points and 11 rebounds. Hannah Asaka also notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Mia Blume added 11 points off the bench.
The game was a tough competition throughout as there were 14 lead changes and eight tied scores.
The largest lead in the first quarter was just five as the Gophers held a 12-7 advantage. A jumper by Jacqueline Wardrop made it a one-point game, 18-17, at the end of the first 10 minutes.
An early three by Blume tied the game at 20 in the second quarter. The Knights built a seven-point lead, 36-29, late in the second, but Goucher scored the final six points of the half for a one-point game, 36-35, at the break.
The Knights held the edge in the third quarter and took a 48-44 lead heading into the fourth. Neumann held the lead for most of the fourth quarter. The Gophers were able to hit a layup with seven second on the clock to retake the lead. 61-60. Neumann had a chance to move up the court but turned the ball over and fouled Goucher. The Gopher made their two free throws in the end to come away with the 63-60 win.
Neumann (0-2) will continue its journey in the Rinso Marquette Tournament on Saturday afternoon against Mount Aloysius College beginning at 2:00 PM.
