TOWSON, Md. – The Neumann University women's basketball team found picked up its first win of the season with an 81-62 win over Mount Aloysius College at the Renie Amoss Tip-Off Saturday afternoon.
Lauren Klieber picked a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead Neumann to the win. The sophomore was named the team MVP for the tournament. Chelsea Keebler and Aubrie Breisblatt both added 16 points. Jacqueline Wardrop grabbed eight boards.
The Mounties scored the first five points of the game and went on to take a 19-10 lead after the first quarter. The Knights chipped their way into the deficit and midway through the second tied the game at 24 on a three-pointer by Keebler.
Neumann continued to build on its score and took a 37-27 lead with 2:12 left in the first half. Mount Aloysius worked back to within five, 38-33, at the break.
The Knights dominated in the third quarter of the game, scoring 27 points and increasing the lead against the Mounties. Klieber and Breisblatt were standouts in the third quarter, both taking turns in clutch shots for the Knights. Neumann took a 67-49 lead heading into the final quarter. The Knights used the lead built earlier to come away with the 81-62 win.
Neumann (1-2) will look to build on the positive momentum when it heads to Rutgers University- Camden on Tuesday night. Game-time is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
