EWING, N.J. – The Neumann University men's basketball team picked an 85-74 win over Penn State Altoona on Friday evening at the TCNJ Tip-Off Tournament.
TJ Lewis and
Kyle Thompson led the Knights with 19 points each. Lewis went 4-for-5 on three-pointers and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Thompson went 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
Jalen Vaughns tallied 17 points and
Ja'bri White added 16 points off the bench.
The first half featured four tied scores and four lead changes. The Knights held the largest lead of the half, 18-12, with 12:18 on the clock. The Lions netted the next seven points to take a one-point edge 19-18, midway through the half. The teams were knotted at 30 a minute before halftime. Penn State Altoona scored the final five points of the half to take a 35-30 lead into the break.
The Lions held the lead throughout the first part of the second half. With 14:11 on the clock, a layup by White put the Knights on top, 46-45. With 12:42 on the scoreboard, a Lion three-pointer tied the game at 51. Thompson answered with a three-pointer and Neumann never trailed again.
A layup by White put the Knights up by double-digits, 71-61, with under four minutes remaining. A jumper by Vaughns put Neumann up by its largest lead, 81-68, with 1:29 left in regulation and the Knights came away with the 85-74 win.
Neumann (2-2) will face host The College of New Jersey tomorrow in the Championship game of the TCNJ Tip-Off Tournament tomorrow evening. Action is slated to start at 5:00 PM.
