ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University Women's Basketball lost its non-conference matchup against Lancaster Bible College 53-43 on Wednesday night.
Lauren Klieber led the Knights with a double-double, 18 points and 17 rebounds.
Jacqueline Wardrop,
Terea Hunt and
Mia Blume each added seven points.
Chelsea Keebler grabbed seven rebounds.
The game started off scoreless for the Knights as the Chargers would score the first 10 points of the game. The Knights would score only four points in the first quarter and LBC would have a 15-4 lead at the first break.
Neumann would get as close as eight in the second quarter. Blume hit a three-pointer as the final points of the half and Lancaster Bible took a 25-16 lead into halftime.
Midway through the third, a layup by Wardrop brought Neumann to within four, 29-25. Seven straight points by the Chargers increased their lead back to 11, 26-25, with 3:28 on the clock. The Knights would net the final six points of the quarter, capped by a three-pointer by Wardrop, for a 36-31 score heading into the fourth quarter.
Early in the fourth, Klieber sank a layup and was fouled. That free throw tied the game at 37. The teams traded the next few baskets and were knotted at 41 with 5:46 left in regulation. A jumper and two free throws by the Chargers put them back into the lead. Two free throws by Klieber kept the Knights within striking distance, 45-43, with three minutes remaining.
Two Lancaster Bible jumpers and key free throws in the final minute gave the Chargers the 53-43 win, spoiling the comeback from the Knights.
