WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team added another win to its season, defeating Wilkes University 53-51 on Saturday afternoon.
Lauren Klieber continues to lead the Knights as she netted 26 points in the game. The sophomore also tallied nine rebounds and three steals.
Lindsay Holden scored 13 points off the bench.
Terea Hunt grabbed 10 rebounds and
Jacqueline Wardrop and
Emily DuPont each added nine boards.
The Knights and the Colonels had a slow start in the first quarter. The teams went back and forth for the first 10 minutes. Wilkes held a 12-9 edge at the first break.
Neumann came out and scored the first 11 points of the quarter, including three three-pointers from Holden, for a 20-12 lead. The Colonels answered with the final nine points on the quarter, including a free throw with five seconds on the clock, to take a slim 21-20 lead into halftime.
Wilkes continued its run to start the third quarter and built a 38-22 lead midway. The Knights finished the quarter by scoring 11 points for a 38-33 score heading into the final 10 minutes.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Colonels held a 48-37 lead. Neumann continued to chip away at the lead, and with 35 seconds on the clock two free throws by DuPont tied the game at 51. Hunt connected on a layup with three seconds left in regulation to take a 53-51 advantage. Wilkes had a last chance look to tie the game, but the ball didn't fall and the Knights came away with the two-point win.
Neumann (3-5) will host St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday. Action is slated to start at 7: 00 PM.
