ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team saw its season come to an end on Saturday's senior day, dropping a 9-0 result to visiting Manhattanville College in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) play.
Â
Katelyn Brown set the program record for games played in a Neumann uniform with 107th career game.
Michelle Winand-Bacon stopped 39 shots in goal in the loss.
Â
Neumann hoped to close out its 2021-22 season in style on senior day, but after honoring the team's five seniors the Knights could not gain any traction in the opening period. Manhattanville continued where it left off last night, scoring early in the contest to make it difficult for the hosts from the opening whistle. The Valiants scored a pair of goals under two minutes apart to take a 2-0 lead at the 7:22 mark, then tacked on a third goal late in the period to take a 3-0 lead into intermission.
Â
The Knights played a solid opening ten minutes of the second stanza trying to work their way back into the game, but things unraveled late in the period thanks to several penalties by the hosts. Manhattanville was able to put the game out of reach with three goals in the final 9:12 of the frame, including two on the man-advantage to take a commanding 6-0 lead into the third.
Â
With the game out of reach in the final frame, the Valiants kept their foot on the gas pedal. The visitors lit the lamp three more times in the period to cruise to the 9-0 conference win.
Â
With the loss, Neumann finishes its season with a record of 2-20-2 and 2-16-2 in UCHC action. The Knights will look to improve next season and get back into the conference playoffs.
