Men’s Basketball Edged to End Regular Season

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University men's basketball team was edged in the regular season finale, 69-66, at Marymount University in Atlantic East Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
 
Jalen Vaughns scored a game-high 35 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Ryan Starr added 10 points.
 
The first part of the game featured six lead changes and five tied scores. Knotted at 19, the Saints went on a 12-2 run to take a 31-21 lead with five minutes left before halftime. The Knights answered with the next eight points to pull within two, 31-29, with 2:26 on the clock. Marymount scored six of the final eight points of the half for a 37-31 lead at the break.
 
The Knights came out of halftime and scored the first eight points to take a 39-37 edge. However, the Saints netted the next 11 points to jump back out to a 48-39 lead. The teams battled back and forth until with 4:18 on the clock, a layup by Vaughns brought Neumann to within one, 63-62. The teams then traded points over the final four minutes, but the Knights could not get a stop and go-ahead or tying basket. Neumann had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but the shot was off target and the Knights fell 69-66.
 
Neumann (18-7, 10-2 Atlantic East) will be the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and will host No. 7 Marywood University in first round action on Monday evening.
