BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win at Sarah Lawrence College on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-16, 25-14, 25-21.
Josiah Melendez led the Knights with 12 kills.
TJ McConnell tallied seven.
Nick Shortlidge and
Eric Van Horn each added six.
Jules Maiorano handed out 28 assists.
Brandon Baskerville notched 12 digs. Maiorano and Shortlidge each added seven digs.
The match started with the teams going back and forth. Leading 8-6, the Knights tallied the next six points to take a 14-6 advantage. Neumann came away with the 25-16 set one win.
Leading 13-12 in set two, the Knights scored nine of the next 10 points for a 22-13 advantage. A service aces by Shortlidge sealed the 25-14 set win and 2-0 lead in the match.
The Gryphons took an early 4-1 lead in the third set. Neumann then notched seven of the next eight points to take an 8-5 lead. Sarah Lawrence netted four consecutive points to tie the game at 15. Down 17-16, the Knights scored eight of the next nine points to retake the lead, 24-18. A Melendez kill gave Neumann the 25-21 set win and 3-0 match victory.
Neumann (6-6) heads to Cairn on Thursday evening. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
