BRONX, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Lehman College tri-match on Saturday afternoon. The Knights fell to Drew 3-0 before defeating the host Lehman 3-0.
Against Drew, the set scores were 25-17, 25-15 and 25-14.
Josiah Melendez led the Knights with 10 kills.
Eric Van Horn tallied seven kills.
Jules Maiorano handed out 17 assists and eight digs.
In the win over Lehman, Melendez led the team again with 12 kills and 14 digs. Van Horn tallied eight and
TJ McConnell added seven. Maiorano dished out 33 assists and 11 digs.
Brandon Baskerville notched 11 digs.
The first two sets went back and forth and required some extra points, A service ace by
Christian Johnson gave the Knights the 28-26 first set win. A kill by Melendez sealed the 26-24 second set win to put Neumann up 2-0.
The Knights jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the third set. Lehman worked its way back to within one, 13-12, before Neumann answered with four straight and a 17-12 edge. Another service ace by Johnson sealed the 25-20 third set win and 3-0 match win.
Neumann (7-8) is now off until after spring break when it will host Widener University. Action is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
