Softball Splits, Picks Up First Win of 2022

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Neumann University softball picked up its first win of 2022 as it split a pair of games at the Spring Games on Saturday afternoon.

The win marks the first win for Head Coach Shannon Padula at the helm of the Neumann softball team.

In the first game of the afternoon, the Knights fell to Elizabethtown 8-4. Olivia Ammon made her first collegiate start in the circle and went 5.1 innings. She allowed eight runs, six earned, on 14 hits. Courtney McKenna went the next 1.2 scoreless innings.

Taylor Portzline went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. Bri Reim went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Knights scored their four runs in the fourth inning. With two runners on base, Ammon doubled to score Vanessa Bowen. Reim then singled to score Portzline. Emily Reid drew a bases-loaded walk to score Ammon. Kristen Pagliaro then hit a sacrifice fly to score Reim.

Ashlynne Scardino picked up the win in the 12-3 win over Concordia (Minn.) in the second game. She went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs and striking out six over 7.0 innings.

Portzline picked up another three hits as the Knight pounded out 15 hits in the game. Neumann got on the board in the top of the second as Scradino reached on an error and Portzline and Bowen scored. Ashley Leicht then crossed the plate on a passed ball for a 3-0 lead.

Leicht singled in the third to score Pagliaro and put the Knights up 4-0. Neumann took advantage of a Concordia error in the fourth to plate two more runs. Bowen knocked in Pagliaro in the sixth. Neumann then scored five more runs in the seventh for the 12-3 final.
