MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Neumann University baseball team suffered its first defeat of the 2022 season at the hands of Eastern University, 21-12, on Wednesday afternoon.
Ryan Lopez each had three hits in the game.
Nick Colon started the game on the mound and went 2.0 innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits.
RJ Mawhinney pitched the next two innings and allowed six runs, two earned, on three hits.
Thomas Carroll allowed six runs on four hits over his two innings.
Brian Van Etten pitched the final two innings and allowed a run on two hits.
The Knights got out to an early 4-0 lead. Lopez hit a double to score

Marty Cortellessa. Silverman followed with a two-run double for the 4-0 lead.
Eastern had an answer for every punch the Knights threw all game. After falling behind 4-0, the Eagles went on to score 20 runs over the first five innings.
The Knights would chip away, scoring three runs in the sixth inning and five more in the seventh. However, it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Neumann (2-1) has a quick turnaround and are back at it tomorrow morning against a very solid Christopher Newport team at 11:00 AM.
