CARLISLE, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team traveled to Carlisle, Pa. to take on the Dickinson Red Devils on Wednesday afternoon. Dickinson came away with the 18-15 win.
Thomas Carroll got the start and suffered the loss going 2.0 innings. He surrendered eight runs, five earned, on four hits while striking out three.
Ryan Lopez had two hits and five RBI.
Anthony Basciano added three hits and two RBI.
Alec Silverman tallied three RBI.
The Knights trailed 4-0 early and were able to scratch one across in the top of the second on a Silverman single that plated
Marcus White. The Red Devils added four more in the bottom of the second for an 8-1 score.
The Knights didn't go away, scoring three runs in the third. Lopez and Silverman each singled in a run while a bases loaded hit-by-pitch by
Zach Ray made the score 8-4.
Struggling to find the shutdown inning, the Red Devils added two more runs in the fourth to push the lead to 10-4. The Knights would once again answer with a big fifth inning starting with a sac fly by Silverman.
Colin Pollard pushed across the plate on a wild pitch.
Nick Glebocki singled in
Shawn Vega and it was back to a three run game at 10-7.
After six, the Knights would find themselves down 16-8. A huge seventh inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Lopez would get Neumann back into the game. With two runners on base, Basciano doubled to score Silverman and Ray for a 16-15 score.
The Red Devils answered with two in the bottom of the seventh to make it 18-15. The scoring would stay there as
Brennan Hatala kept the Knights within striking distance, going 2.0 innings giving up one hit and no runs out of the pen.
Neumann (6-8) is back on the field on Friday for conference action at Centenary University. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
