ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Neumann University men's basketball team's season came to an end with a 95-57 loss to Williams College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon.
Jalen Vaughns led the Knights with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
TJ Lewis and
Tony James each netted 10 points while
KJ Speller added seven.
After the Ephs opened with a basket-and-one, Vaughns scored the first points of the game for the Knights. With the score 5-4 Williams, the Ephs netted three three-pointers in a row. Neumann stayed within striking distance and a James jumper with 15:10 on the clock made it a four-point game, 14-10.
Over the next two-and-a-half minutes, Williams went on a 10-3 run to build a double-digit lead, 24-13. The Ephs also went on a 15-4 run later in the half to extend their lead to 20, 39-19, with 7:05 on the clock. Vaughns ended the half with a jumper for a 50-33 score at the break.
Lewis hit the first basket of the second half, but then Williams scored the next 17 points for a 67-35 score. The Ephs cruised the rest of the way for the 95-57 win to advance to the second round.
Neumann finishes its season 21-8 overall and as the 2022 Atlantic East Champions.
