BALTIMORE, Md. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team earned its fifth win in six games on Wednesday evening, knocking off host Goucher College by a score of 14-4 in non-conference action.
Drew Conlon continued where he left off over the weekend, pacing the Knights with five goals and three assists for eight points.
Wyatt Belotti (2 g, 1 a),
Brett McLaughlin (2 g, 1 a) and
Emmett Wexler (2 g) all recorded multi-point games in the win.
Jake Marchiafava picked up the win in goal, stopping three shots on the night.
Vincent Corbino led the team with nine ground balls.
Much like Saturday's rout at King's, Neumann established its dominance early in Wednesday night's contest. The Knights jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes of play through goals from
Kyle Daly, Belotti and McLaughlin and never looked back. Goucher tallied twice near the end of the quarter, but a Wexler marker at the 2:04 mark of the frame gave the visitors a 4-2 lead after one period of play.
After over six minutes of scoreless action to start the second stanza, the Knights began a scoring barrage to close the quarter. A Conlon goal with 8:41 left in the frame was answered by the Gophers two minutes later to make it 5-3, but it was all Neumann the remainder of the half. The visitors scored five times in four minutes to blow the game wide-open at 10-3 heading to halftime. Conlon dominated the Goucher defense during the 5-0 run, finding the back of the net three times and adding an assist. Belotti and McLaughlin also scored during the run, as the Knights rolled into the intermission with a comfortable lead.
In the third quarter it would be the defense's time to shine, as the back-end shut-out the Gophers in the quarter to deny any possible comeback hopes from the hosts. Conlon registered his fifth goal of the matchup at the 4:05 mark of the frame, followed up by a man-up marker from Wexler to send the game to the fourth with Neumann up by a score of 12-3.
Goucher finally broke through the Knights' brick-wall of a defense at 12:19 of the final frame to cut the lead to 12-4. The goal ended a stretch of 24:38 where the visitors did not concede. That was the only highlight of the quarter for the hosts though, as Neumann clinched the win with two more markers from
Sam Nice and
Cain Tarquini to finish off the Gophers by a score of 14-4.
Neumann (5-1) will have a week off before returning home for another non-conference contest versus Utica College. Game-time on Wednesday, March 16th is scheduled for 7:00 PM in Aston.
