HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University softball team took a pair of Atlantic East Conference contests at Centenary University on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights won by scores of 7-2 and 9-2.
Ashlynne Scardino picked up the win in game one, going 7.0 innings in the circle. She allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits and struck out six. The Knights picked up 14 hits in the game.
Christina Ludovico was 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Vanessa Bowen and
Aubrie Breisblatt each added three hits as well.
The Cyclones scored first with a run in the third inning. The Knights plated three unearned runs in the top of the fourth.
Elizabeth Shire led off with a double and scored when
Kristen Pagliaro reached on an error. With two runners on base, Ludovico hit a two-run single to take a 3-1 lead.
In the fifth, Neumann added a run when Breisblatt singled in Shire. The Knights added three more runs in the top of the seventh with a single, double and an RBI groundout for the 7-2 final.
In game two,
Olivia Ammon got the win, going 7.0 innings. She allowed two runs on five hits and struck out five. The Knights exploded for 17 hits in the game with
Bri Reim,
Taylor Portzline,
Maddie Tice and Shire all tallying three knocks.
Neumann struck early, plating two runs in the top of the first. Ludovico led off the game with a single and scored on a single by Portzline. Tice knocked in Reim with a single for the 2-0 lead. Reim knocked in
Emily Reid in the second for a 3-0 lead. Reim knocked in another run in the fourth as she doubled in Ludovico.
The Knights added two more runs in the fifth off a Cyclones error for a 6-1 game. In the top of the sixth, Neumann had three back-to-back-to-back RBI hits to extend its lead to 9-1. Centenary scored one run in the bottom of the sixth for the 9-2 final.
Neumann (10-19, 4-4 Atlantic East) will host Penn State Brandywine in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 3:00 PM.
